Approximately 30 designs from this book were reproduced in Collected Materials for Designs of the World’s Plants, indicating that Hisui must have referenced it frequently. This loosely bound book contains a note stating, “From the library of Sugiura Hisui, purchased in Paris in Taisho 12, rebound by Hisui in Showa 24,” indicating he bought it while studying in Europe in 1922-23 and rebound it himself 26 years later. Hisui’s profound affection for books is evident in the fact that when this volume was falling apart, he took the time to repair it and continued to read it with great care.
