This is a poster research journal published between 1927 and 1933 by Shichinin-sha (Group of Seven), led by Hisui (the exhibit is a reproduction). While the journal mainly introduced posters from overseas and reported on Shichinin-sha exhibitions, his regular column, “Manroku” (Random Comments), included accounts of sketching from life and can be enjoyed as somewhat casual essays. He relates stories of growing unfamiliar plants found at nurseries, and small struggles experienced while sketching in fields and mountains. Revisiting Hisui’s Album of Hundred Flowers after reading these accounts conveys a vivid picture of Hisui’s activities during that time.
