③IMAIZUMI Imaemon XIII (Yoshinori), Bowl, pinks design, underglaze grey and overglaze enamels, Nabeshima ware
Dianthus pinks are depicted against a gray background, created by spraying a lightly colored sumi ink, their red edges forming an attractive contrast to the white of the flowers. The stems rise from the bottom of the bowl as if fluttering in the breeze, drawing the eye to the buds that unfurl and tumble from the tips of the stems. The composition, which seems to mirror the rotation of the potter’s wheel, evokes the energy and vitality of the plants.
