Lidth’s Jay
A Mysterious Lapis Lazuli Blue Shining in the Tropical Forest
An endemic species that can only be found on the islands of Amami Oshima, Kakeroma, and Ukejima. It is a nationally protected species and the prefectural bird of Kagoshima. There are groups protecting the birds in their natural habitats, as well as collaborations, such as with the Ueno Zoo, to protect and breed them. However you look at them, the main feature is sure to be the beautiful blue wings. Being a relative of crows, they have a natural "kah kah" sound, but also have been known to imitate sounds they hear on a daily basis. Lend them your ear and see what they say.
