Sea Slug
A Mysterious Creature of Which No Two Are Alike
Sea slugs do not have shells, but are classified as a snail. It is said there are over 3,000 species in the world, each with a unique and diverse appearance. Whether it is flashy colors to show the appearance of poison or being able to blend in with a rock, everything about their look is designed to protect them from predators. The Laboratory of Sea Slugs & Nudibranch, the only one in Japan, was established to investigate the many mysteries of these creatures, such as why different kinds eat different things. There are around 40 species on display at any given time and pictures of around 380 kinds that have been found in Kagoshima are displayed.
