Frequently asked questions

Lost and Found

ACheck with staff at the nearest station if you forgot something in a station or train. Tell the station staff the following.

- Notable features (name, shape, color, contents, etc.)

- When you forgot it (where and when you boarded for something you forgot on a train)

- Where you forgot it (where you boarded, where you were sitting, or which luggage rack you used for something you forgot on a train)

If it is found, you can collect it at the station where it is being held. (Note that if we pass on your belongings to the police for safe-keeping, you will have to collect them from that police station. )

When you come to collect your belongings, you will need to provide your name and address and show us ID. Please note that you will have to pay the travel costs to come and collect your belongings.

Tickets

AChildren aged six or over need a ticket. Child fares are half adult fares. (This applies to limited express tickets and reserved seating tickets as well.) However, amounts will be rounded up to the nearest ten yen. (*Example: If the adult fare is 150 yen, the child fare will be 80 yen.)

Children under six years can ride free, but please note that the following cases will require a child fare ticket:

- When not accompanied by an adult fare passenger.

- Up to two children can ride free accompanied by an adult or child fare passenger.

- When an infant or baby uses a reserved seat.

- When the infants are part of a group tour, or accompanying members of a group tour.

AThere are posters (in both the trains and stations) and announcements urging passengers to notify the conductor or station staff if they are affected by a nuisance in the train, or witness a nuisance. We also work with the Railway Police and may request the police to board the train or other such measures needed to actively prevent nuisances.

ADesires by our customers to make our facilities completely smoke-free, and the Health Promotion Act regulation requiring operators of facilities used by large numbers of the public to enact measures to prevent passive smoking, mean that as of April 1, 2011, smoking was banned throughout our stations, and all ash trays were removed.

Carriages

AInside the carriages, the temperature in summer (cooling) is automatically set to 26°C (or 28°C for carriages with a higher set temperature), and 18°C in winter (heating). This temperature is automatically regulated, but there can be differences in carriage temperature caused by how many people are inside, passenger ages and clothing, or how close you are to the air conditioning vents. Also, people experience heat and cold in different ways. Our passengers have provided us with numerous and varied suggestions. We will take these opinions under advisement and work to improve your passenger experience.

AOn weekdays, Nankai Railway now sets aside carriages for the use of women only during the time periods below. We ask for your understanding and cooperation.
