Collection Exhibition: Glass × Egaku

The Japanese verb "egaku" encompasses a wide range of meanings. In addition to drawing pictures or diagrams, it refers to depicting or describing scenes, envisioning images, and conveying emotions. What kinds of expression emerge when an artist’s wish to capture an irreplaceable moment – an imagined world, a remembered landscape, or an unseen emotion – meets the medium of glass? This exhibition focuses on the intersection of "glass" and "egaku", presenting works in three distinct sections.

The first section presents works made by directly drawing or painting onto glass surfaces. The second features works that explore the expressive potential of glass itself, making use of its inherent material qualities. The third showcases works in which glass is physically manipulated and transformed through techniques such as carving and grinding.

We hope you enjoy this world of egaku made possible through the medium of glass.
