(1) Energy and us

This zone explains the energy issues facing Japan.

We consume large amounts of energy every day in order to lead a convenient and happy lifestyle.

Japan has a low energy self-sufficiency rate, and we import most of our energy sources such as oil, coal and natural gas from foreign countries.

Large energy consumption, in exchange for our convenient lifestyle, is having many negative effects on the earth such as the occurrence of global warming, rapid environmental changes and endangered species, etc.

You can learn where electricity comes from and experience the energy-related "What if…."

(2) The potential of hydrogen energy

This zone explains the characteristics and mechanisms of hydrogen energy.

Hydrogen energy has three primary characteristics.

1 It only produces water when used.

→It does not emit CO₂, so it is environmentally friendly.

2 It can be made from various resources on the earth.

→It does not deplete resources.

3 It can be saved and stored.

→You can use only the energy you need when you need it.

Hydrogen also has other characteristics.

・It is the lightest of all matter.

・It usually exists on the earth as a colorless and clear substance.

・It is invisible and has no smell.

・It becomes a liquid when chilled to -253℃.

Hydrogen is used when making lipstick and margarine and even used in rocket fuel.

Hydrogen-production model

Using a model, you can try from making hydrogen to using it as energy.

*The actual display is a model.

(1) Turn the wheel.

→This generates electricity, and separates the water into oxygen and hydrogen.

(2)Fill the hydrogen tanks completely.

→The separated hydrogen can be stored in the tank for later use.

(3) Push the blue button when it lights up.

(4)The fuel cell starts to generate electricity.

When stored hydrogen passes through the fuel cell, it reacts with the oxygen in the air to generate electricity and water.

(5)The fuel-cell vehicle starts running.

→The fuel-cell vehicle that runs on this energy is an extremely environmentally friendly car that only releases water.
