Toshodaiji Temple - Kōdō Lecture Hall
Category: Temple
The Kōdō Lecture Hall was built by moving and remodeling Heijō Palace's Higashi Chōshūden (government workers’ building). The outside view is of a one-storied building with a hip-and-gable roof, and its existence is extremely valuable as it is the only building remaining of Heijō Palace. The principle object is a seated statue of Miroku Nyorai (Maitreya buddha) (Important Cultural Property). A statue of Jikoku-ten (Dhrtarastra), and a standing statue of Zōchō-ten (Virudhaka) (Important Cultural Property) are also housed in the hall.
