9. Architectural Heritage of Third-Generation Osaka City Hall
The third-generation Osaka City Hall, which had been completed in 1921 and long loved by the citizens as one of the key architectural elements of modern cityscape of Nakanoshima neighborhood, was demolished for the construction of current (fourth-generation) Osaka City Hall.
The stained glass and the chandelier displayed here were installed in the old (third-generation) Osaka City Hall. The stained glass, which features the city’s emblem of Miotsukushi flanked by laurel bundles tied with a ribbon, was for the building’s entrance hall.
The twelve-lamp chandelier, which also features the city’s emblem of Miotsukushi high in the middle with gorgeous decorative metal pieces of palmette motif (a plant pattern) scattered, was for the Mayor’s office.
