Shinsaibashi has been a town of merchants since the Edo period.

Modern times saw the introduction of show windows and a rich array of gorgeously presented stores of various trades.
Shinsaibashi thrived as the center of consumer-driven culture and information transmission in Osaka.

Osaka-style window shopping in Shinsaibashi known as Shinbura was one form of recreation for citizens.
The 1927 illustration Shinsaibashi-suji Annai vividly depicts just how expressive each storefront was.

This model recreates the lively atmosphere of eastern Shinsaibashi from Suomachi to Mittera-suji and Soemoncho based on Shinsaibashi-suji Annai.
