PIJIN "QR Translator" and YAMAHA "OMOTENASHI GUIDE"
About the cooperation aiming toward actualizing an all-new form of Universal Design

-Jointly exhibiting at CEATEC JAPAN 2016, held Oct. 4-7

PIJIN Ltd. (head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo. President: Kenji Takaoka. Hereafter referred to as PIJIN) and Yamaha Corporation (head office: Chuo Ward, Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture. President: Takuya Nakata. Hereafter referred to as YAMAHA) are bringing an all new Universal Design for information transmission into reality, linking together PIJIN's "QR Translator", a service to easily manage creation and updates of multilanguage content, and YAMAHA's "OMOTENASHI GUIDE" an audio system for universal design.

Japan received roughly 19.73 million visitors from overseas during FY2015, a record high for the 3rd year consecutively [*1]. In addition, the "Act on the Elimination of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities" became effective on April 1, 2016, and environmental fittings to make information easily accessible regardless of nationality or physical ability are a necessity.

Many signboards of municipalities and product packages of private companies have already used the QR Translator for "visual information", and now from joining it with the multi-language "Omotenashi Guide" for announcements and other "auditory information" it becomes possible to develop them complementary to one another. Herewith, we accelerate to develop more solutions that support universally in order to actualize PIJIN's corporate philosophy "make the world barrier-free with the power of IT".

Conceptual Diagram of Both Companies in Cooperation

In the first version, a function was added enabling one to easily display printed materials, signboards, and more, as multi-language content text by simply scanning a QR code with the "Omotenashi Guide" app.
For 4 days from October 4 (Wed.) to October 7 (Fri.) at CEATEC JAPAN 2016, hosted at the Makuhari Messe, both companies will hold a joint exhibition featuring their collaboration at the PIJIN booth.

PIJIN Ltd., providing a system with which multilingual content updates can be managed easily and collectively, is investigating developing a system that enables the multilingual contents of OMOTENASHI GUIDE to be easily used and managed.
Starting with this collaboration, YAMAHA would like to build a more convenient system for users, utilizing OMOTENASHI GUIDE with various services and apps.
In the future, both companies will continue to promote Universal Design constructions of all-new systems of information transmission, using what we have made as a base.

What is OMOTENASHI GUIDE?

OMOTENASHI GUIDE is a system that supports "The Universal Design of Sounds (UD)" developed by Yamaha Corporation, adopting several patents, pending or approved. In facilities implementing it, users who do not understand Japanese, have impaired hearing or are deaf can obtain information through multilingual speech and text on their smartphones, just by the playing of an announcement in Japanese. Information is provided using sounds, not the internet or radio wave. Its accessibility without internet environment is also a specialty.
