Edo komon is a type of fine stencil dyeing, in which the elmements of composition are point, line and plane. The designs are extraordinarily small, so that, viewed from a distance, the fabric appears to be plain colored cloth. Come closer, however, a world of motifs, amazingly fully developed, unfolds. Saying of the Pokémon designs are Edo komon, “They’re just alike. I should make komon of them,” Komiya chose Pokémon such as Stunfisk and Amoonguss. The ecology of burying themselves in the soil or disguising themselves as Poké Ball, making it impossible to grasp their true form until one gets extremely close, has created a sophisticated patterned world. On the other hand, in the work where Haunter are lined up, it approaches the original image of the classical pattern "tatewaku," which is said to resemble rising steam. What a perfectly fitting role for the Hanter classified as "Gas Pokémon"! By placing them in the reins, the "Ability: Levitate" characteristic of Haunter stands out prominently.
