Oku-zashiki (Inner Parlor) Building
This was the most northerly building when Tojo-tei was initially completed. The entry is on the south, but the eastern half is blocked by the Naka-zashiki (Spare Room) Building, and so gets little light. The tokonoma faces east, unlike those in the Omote-zashiki (Parlor) Building and Akitake's room. Compared with the layout of a daimyo mansion, this place has been designed more to be home for its owner. The rooms lack nageshi beams and carved transoms.
The name of Akitake's second wife, Yae, is seen on blueprints from the Taisho period. Yae (1868-1937) was originally one of Akitake’s maids, but eventually married him. This suggests that Yae normally lived here, and Akitake might have used this as his bedroom. Yae herself was the third daughter of Saito Kanshi, a direct vassal of the shogunate. She and Akitake had three sons and three daughters.
