Higashi Kuruwa Koshimaki Waist-Band Stone Wall

An archaeological excavation in 2008 revealed a two-tiered stone wall built mid-way and at the bottom of a slope. The stone wall built mid-way acts as a retaining wall to protect the slope. The stone wall at the foot of the slope is the Koshimaki wall, which faced the moat that once separated it from the Sugou Kuruwa (Sugou bailey). The surface of the cross-jointed drystone masonry wall is smooth, suggesting it was built in the mid-17th century.
