Taiko Mon (Drum Gate)

Between the Ni-no-maru (second bailey) and the Jibutsudo Kuruwa(Jibutsudo bailey) are the stone remains of a large gate. During the Edo period, this was the site of the Taiko Mon, or the drum gate, as it contained large drums inside. The drums could be heard across the town as time signals and for signifying the daily opening and closing times of the main gates.
