Jibutsudo Kuruwa, Honmaru Koshimaki Waist-Band Stone Walls
Stone walls from different eras can be seen in this area. On the left, the straight angled stone walls of the Jibutsudou kuruwa (Jibutsudou Bailey) , characteristic of Early Modern (17th century) stone wall construction can be seen, alongside the gently curved koshimaki (literally “waist-band”) stonework of the Honmaru (main bailey), representative of medieval (circa 16th century) fortress construction methods. The koshimaki, waist-band walls also serve as soil retention walls.
