Walk around the 7th floor to learn the secrets of Hideyoshi's life and unification of the whole country.

8F Amazing views! The castle tower observatory!

Overlooks Osaka city 85m above sea level. Mt. Ikoma and Mt. Rokko can be seen in the distance. On a fine day, you might be able to see Mt. Hiei.

Spot Introduction

Osaka Castle Park is a green, forest-covered oasis in the city. Home to numerous Important Cultural Properties, it also shows the faces of the four seasons in its plum forest and Nishinomaru Garden. Otemon Gate

The main gate of the castle. The “triple hollyhock crests,” which indicate that the castle was rebuilt as a stronghold of the Tokugawa government, are a must see, along with the fantastic nighttime illuminations.

Tamon-yagura Turret

This building forms part of the impregnable fortress built around the Otemon Gate. The turret contains holes for spearing passing enemies from above.

Sengan-yagura Turret

This turret was built to defend the Otemon Gate from the north. The walls contain loopholes for shooting enemies with matchlock guns.

Nishi-no-maru Garden

Famous for its approximately 300 cherry blossom trees, which bloom in spring. Enjoy the scenic backdrop formed by Main Tower across the broad lawn and garden.

Sakuramon Gate

During the Toyotomi era, this gate was given the name “Sakuramon Gate” on account of the cherry-tree-lined paths nearby. The main entrance to the Inner Bailey of the Main Tower.

Takoishi Stone (Octopus Stone)

The largest stone in Osaka Castle, said to be 5.5 meters high and 11.7 meters wide, with an estimated weight of 108 tons. The stone was given the name “Takoishi Stone” (Octopus Stone) on account of the octopus-like pattern on its lower left corner.

Japanese Garden

Together with the restoration of the turret in 1931, what at the time was the garden of the Kishu Goten Mansion was also re-landscaped. The view from the southern side of the pond showcases the turret, which appears as a backdrop to the garden scenery.

Former Headquarters of the Fourth Army Division

This historic Western-style building was built in 1931. The site was recently restored and has become a new hive of activity.

Main Tower

The Main Tower of Osaka Castle at the heart of the castle grounds. The building contains a museum exhibiting cultural assets related to Osaka Castle.

The Monument Where Hideyori Toyotomi and Yodo-dono Committed Suicide

A stone monument on the west side of the Yamazato-Maru Bailey. Hideyori Toyotomi and his mother Yodo-dono, concubine of Hideyoshi Toyotomi, are said to have committed suicide here.

Gokurakubashi Bridge

This popular spot is a good place to take beautiful photos of the Main Tower beyond the inner moat.

Gozabune Boat

This 20-minute cruise in the inner moat passes right by the castle’s impressive stone walls, which are said to be the highest in Japan. Visitors can enjoy a trip aboard a glittering golden boat.

Aoyamon Gate

A gate located at the Aoya-guchi Entrance, one of the gateways to Osaka Castle. The box-shaped partition helped protect the castle from enemy invasions.

The building of the former Headquarters of the Fourth Army Division (former Osaka City Museum) has been newly opened. It is located in the Osaka Castle's Inner Bailey. B1F has the Samurai and Ninja Experience and the Illusion Museum, 1F has casual dining establishments such as cafes and shops selling takoyaki and noodles. On 2F, 3F and the roof, you can enjoy authentic cuisine, and there is terrace seating with views of Osaka Castle.

From the Meiji period to the end of the Second World War, the Osaka Castle grounds were used as a base for the Imperial Japanese Army (now a special historic site). The former Headquarters of the Fourth Army Division (previously the Osaka City Museum) was built in 1931, in the style of a medieval European castle.

BLUE BIRDS ROOF TOP TERRACE is located on the rooftop floor of MIRAIZA OSAKA-JO. Previously inaccessible, the terrace section of the building was recently opened up, allowing visitors to enjoy seasonal beauty and views of Osaka Castle while savoring gourmet cuisine. (Opens seasonally, from March to October)
