Tawara Area
Category: Tawara
The Tawara region is the producing area of Yamatocha tea, Nara's specialty, and a place rich in greenery.
The tea plantation used as shooting location for the movie "Mogari no Mori" ("The Mourning Forest", winner at the Cannes Film Festival) is depicted as a beautiful japanese landscape.
With many historical sites still remaining, such as the numerous Emperor's tombs from the Nara Period and the tomb of O-no Yasumaro, editor of the Kojiki (Japan’s oldest historical record), this mountain village is covered in historical romanticism.
At the "Tawara-yamasato-ichiba", one can buy plenty of local specialities such as rice and tea, which can only be purchased directly from producers. (※Open on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday)
