Yagyu Area
Category: Yagyu
Yagyu is a village located between the mountains in the eastern part of Nara City. This region was ruled by Mr. Yagyu, who wielded prestige as an instructor of swordplay for the shogun family in the 17th century.
A large number of historical sites remaining in the area, such as the residence of the chief retainer of the Yagyu fief and a dojo, have set the scenes of novels and TV shows.
Yagyu Kaido Road is a popular hiking trail that starts at Shinyakushiji Temple leading to Yagyu Village, along which you can come across Buddhist images made of stone.
You can admire natural scenery each season, such as the cherry blossoms at the encampment site, the Yagyu Flower Iris Garden, the autumn leaves of Enjoji Temple, etc.
