The new East and West Wings are reminiscent in appearance to azekura-zukuri, an ancient architectural style utilizing intercrossed triangular logs. The Nara Buddhist Sculpture Hall (formerly the main building of the Nara Imperial Museum), was built in 1894 and is designated as an Important Cultural Property. These buildings and the Ritual Bronzes Gallery compose the museum. Buddhist art is principally displayed, including many National Treasures and Important Cultural Properties.
