Saidaiji Temple

It is the main temple of the Shingon Risshū sect and was built at the wish of Empress Shōtoku, who wanted to erect the statues of Shitennō (the Four Heavenly Kings). When it was built, the temple building was as majestic as that of Tōdaiji. However, it declined temporarily and was revived in the 13th century by Kōshō bodhisattva, also known as Eison. Including the standing statue of Gautama Buddha, many temple treasures and cultural assets remain in the temple.
