Welcome to Metro Museum.

The world's first metropolitan subway system was launched in London, in 1863.

The first subway in Japan began operation on a 2.2km section between Ueno and Asakusa, Tokyo, on Dec .30th, 1927.

Ever since, subways have been developed and expanded along with the urban growth of the city. These days, the subways are an important and indispensable public transport mode for our everyday lives.

The Metro Museum was established in the hope that many people, especially young people (from elementary through high school students) will come to better understand the subway. This is a participatory museum, allowing visitors to "see, touch and move" to learn everything from the history of the subway up to new technology being introduced in recent years.

We hope you will enjoy gaining new perspectives and making new discoveries about the subway, which is closely connected to our everyday lives.
