The Wakasaji Mihama Trail

The border between the Wakasa region of Fukui Prefecture and the Kohoku region of Shiga Prefecture is lined with mountains, and the mountain path that separates the Shinjo area of Mihama Town and Makino in Takashima City of Shiga Prefecture is known as the Wakasaji Mihama Trail, and is especially popular among climbers. The secret lies in the accessibility of the trail, where climbers can access the trail from both Shiga Prefecture and Fukui Prefecture, in addition to the dynamic views of the Sea of Japan and Lake Biwa that can be seen from the ridgeline. The border between the two prefectures is lined with mountains such as Mt. Mikuni, Mt. Akasaka, Mt. Otani, Mt. Omikage, and Mt. Dainichi. In particular, the mountain pass on Mt. Akasaka, known as Awagaragoe, which has long been an important road connecting Wakasa and Omi, is a popular trekking course that attracts many climbers.
