II. Heijo-kyo

Ongoing excavations have revealed what Heijo-kyo, the Imperial capital in what is now known as Nara, looked like.

■ Tiles Reveal the Many Temples of Heijo-kyo

Here we present the various tiles used in the numerous temples within the former Heijo-kyo capital. The patterns and designs of the tiles give us valuable clues as to the periods and backgrounds against which the temples were created.
