The Amazon River

The Amazon River, with its numerous tributaries converging, becomes the world's largest river before flowing into the Atlantic Ocean. The diverse environments created by these tributaries, each with its own unique water color and quality, support over 2,500 species of fish and a wide variety of other creatures.

Biological Introduction

Redhook Metynnis Distribution: Amazon River basin They grow to about 20 cm in length and live in large schools. They resemble piranhas in appearance but are omnivorous, mainly feeding on aquatic plants.

Green iguana Distribution: Tropical rainforests of Central and South America and the West Indies. This large lizard can reach up to 1.8 meters in length, with its tail making up more than half of its body length. This tail serves as a weapon when attacked by predators and also helps it swim.

The importance of tropical rainforests

The Amazon River basin, the world's largest tropical rainforest, is called the "lungs of the Earth" because it absorbs enormous amounts of carbon dioxide and produces oxygen.
Furthermore, the forests that stretch across the tropical regions of Central and South America, Southeast Asia, and Central Africa are known as the world's three largest tropical rainforests, and the amount of oxygen produced by these forests accounts for 40% of the total amount produced by plants on Earth.
The rainforest's function is not limited to producing oxygen. The roots of the trees act as a dam, preventing soil from flowing into the rivers. When the trees are lost, the soil flows into the rivers. This soil muddies the rivers, and when this muddy water flows into the sea, it affects coral reefs that need sunlight. When the coral dies, the creatures that live there also disappear. In this way, nature is interconnected.
