Coral reef sea
Warm, clear seas and coral reefs. Many creatures live in the coral reef seas. Colorful fish, tiny creatures that use the coral as a hiding place, and a variety of beautiful coral species. Coral reefs, home to a diverse array of life, are also known as oases of the sea.

Garden eel

Garden eels
Distribution: Southwest Islands, Philippines, Maldives Distribution: Indian Ocean to Western Pacific Region They inhabit sandy bottoms of coral reefs. This group is also called garden eels. They are about 30 cm in length, but usually stick about half their bodies out of their burrows and feed on drifting plankton. They live in groups, but sometimes they can be seen fighting.
What is the role of coral reefs?
Coral reefs make up only 0.2% of the total ocean, but they are home to 25% of all ocean species, making them a symbol of biodiversity. These rich ecosystems are also valuable to humankind. For example, a substance called "acylspermidine," which is 170 times more potent than conventional anticancer drugs, has been discovered in a type of coral called *Sarcophyton*. Coral reefs also play a role in protecting people from disasters by acting as breakwaters to withstand large waves caused by typhoons and other storms. Furthermore, while tropical rainforests have long been highlighted as a major force in preventing global warming, it is now believed that coral reefs absorb and control a large amount of carbon dioxide, accounting for 65-70% of the Earth's total carbon dioxide.
