Tokyo Port: The driving force of postwar reconstruction and growth
From immediately after the end of World War II, Tokyo Port started contribution to the reconstruction of Tokyo City, as a supply base for coal, electric power and energy. When Japan entered the period of high economic growth, the Port became the sea contribution center of necessary item for consumption and production activities, thus it supported population and industry concentrated in Tokyo.
