Great Kanto Earthquake (1923) and the Birth of Modern Tokyo Port
"No other way is superior to the construction of Tokyo Port as a means to promote trade and industry in Tokyo in the earthquake disaster recovery. Backed by this public opinion increased after the Great Kanto Earthquake, the terminals Hinode, Shibaura, and Takeshiba were completed as the forerunners of the modern Tokyo Port, which made a fresh start as international trade port on May 20, 1941. In this way the modern Tokyo port was born, making it possible for the reconstruction and development of Tokyo as an industrial city.
