⑰Water Use at Lake Towada

Aobuna Intake

The water flowing into the Oirase is regulated by sluices.

Originally, the only outlet of the lake was the Oirase River, but a channel was also created at Aobuna that diverts water into a tunnel that emerges at Towada Power Plant in Yakeyama.

The water is used to generate electricity, and it then flows down to other power plants before being used for irrigation.

The water of Lake Towada is therefore now used for tourism, electricity generation, and agriculture.
