Yamamomiji (Acer amoenum var. matsumurae)
Oirase boasts a variety of maple species, many of which, to the delight of visitors, display colorful foliage in the fall.
The species most commonly seen are yamamomiji (Acer amoenum var. matsumurae), oniitaya (Acer mono var. ambiguum), and Amur maple (Acer japonicum).
The Amur maple has fan-like leaves; the yamamomiji looks like a classic Japanese maple, and the oniitaya has leaves that look like the splayed hands of a frog.
All turn a beautiful red or yellow in the fall.
