⑮Snow and Ice
(Shimeikei Current)
Winter in Oirase is intensely cold, with biting winds and deep snow that keep people away.
The waterfalls on either side of the valley become clear pillars of ice, the river rocks wear caps of snow, and the quietest time of the year begins.
Animals appear, as if beckoned by the quiet.
In the snow, one can find the footprints of Japanese serows, foxes, raccoon dogs, hare, and Japanese marten.
Even in the middle of winter, the gorge offers scenic beauty and animals to see.
