Maximowicz's myuroclada moss (Myuroclada maximowiczii)

Mosses and ferns are common in the shady Oirase Gorge. They are the "secret" behind the gorge’s characteristically beautiful scenery. Oirase is diverse in mosses.

It is said that over two hundred species may be found in the area.

Visitors can find dense growths of sword moss (Bryoxiphium norvegicum), Maximowicz's myuroclada moss (Myuroclada maximowiczii), great scented liverwort (Conocephalum conicum), hypnum moss (Hypnum cupressiforme), and toyama shinobugoke (Thuidium kanedae) on rock walls and boulders.
