⑪Spring Flowers
Kikuzaki ichirinsō (Anemone pseudoaltaica)
Spring comes to Oirase Gorge in the beginning of May.
The flowers burst forth as if they had eagerly waited for the snow to melt, and the forest floor is soon covered with them.
Most form seeds before the trees above them are in full leaf, and then die and disappear in the summer; these are called spring ephemerals.
The most noticeable of these is the kikuzaki ichirinsō (Anemone pseudoaltaica), which crowds over the ground with its dainty white and purple blooms.
