Chishimazasa (Sasa kurilensis)

The main species of broadleaf bamboo that can be seen are kumaizasa (Sasa senanensis) and chishimazasa (Sasa kurilensis). The leaves of Kumaizasa are wide, and its stems branch out sparsely near the ground.

The leaves of chishimazasa are narrower, and its stems branch densely toward the top. It also lacks the fuzzy hair that can be seen on kumaizasa.

Chishimazasa (literally, Chishima broadleaf bamboo) is also called nemagaridake (bent-root bamboo).
