④Birds in Oirase Gorge
Eurasian wren (Troglodytes troglodytes)
In the gorge, one can often see the brown dipper (Cinclus pallasii). The brown dipper is a fairly small bird, it is slightly smaller than a white-cheeked starling (Sturnus cineraceus), and it skims over the water and dives for bugs.
Eurasian wrens (Troglodytes troglodytes), which are slightly smaller than the sparrows, live on the riverbank and in the nearby woods, and the air is filled with their clear twittering during the spring. Both wrens and brown dippers live in the area year-round.
Visitors may also see grey wagtails (Motacilla cinerea), which migrate south for the winter, wagging their tails up and down as they move from boulder to boulder.
