Kikuyama Tsuyoshi of the Sankei Kokusai Shokai 〔Begun in 1984. Using the 3 C's, clean, clear and creative, they added "character" as their fundamental principles. The group includes a wide range of genres, such as kanji, kana, contemporary calligraphy, modern literature calligraphy, seal carving, carved script and impromptu calligraphy. 〕.This display features his major Rain series and works of the small number of characters genre. Kikuyama is challenging himself with a novel display method, installing more than 300 pieces of shikishi-size paper a wall surface. The ink tones and artistic sensibility of Kikuyama's works are unique. Their soft paper surfaces can be appreciated like paintings. Viewers can fully experience these works, letting their emotions engage with them as their minds read and absorb the meaning of the written characters. Armed with considerable traditional calligraphy techniques, Kikuyama ably wields his unfettered lines, as if freely dancing across the paper surface.
