Ohashi Hiroyuki Lishi 2018 Collection of Artist
The kanji section presents Ohashi Hiroyuki. A member of the Kenshin Shodokai, Ohashi displays works in the Kenshinten, Yomiuri Shohoten and Nitten. Faithfully continuing the calligraphy style of his teacher Arai Kofu, Ohashi is an artist honored for the sculptural feel of his ancient characters, while his energetic free-brushed lines of recent years evoke a sense of being swept along on a wave. Ohashi has provided primarily new works for this exhibition, as he challenged himself with the five styles〔Tensho (seal script), reisho (clerical script), kaisho (formal script), gyosho (running script) and sosho (grass script)〕 of kanji calligraphy. As he confronts the history of kanji calligraphy, which he has over the years fully absorbed and continued, we can sense how he is using a contemporary sensibility to work on creating representational art using characters as his depictive elements.
