Kansai International Airport aims to be a pollution-free airport that coexists well and prospers together with the local region. We previously compiled our environmental initiatives into an Eco-Island Plan, and have been working to limit the environmental impacts of airport-related operations, and also to reduce our impacts on the region around the airport.

Taking the original Eco Island initiatives as a starting point, we aims to be an "environmentally advanced airport" that is good for people and good for the planet through efforts such as the use of clean energy and better energy efficiency through the use of advanced information technologies, and we have developed a "Smart Island Plan," with five basic policies based on three basic principles, to guide our innovative environmental initiatives.
