Guide to the Tax-free Procedure

International shoppers eligible for tax-free
- Nonresidents (foreign visitors who have stayed in Japan for less than six months).
- Japanese citizens residing in foreign countries


Examples of Items Eligible for Tax-free
*Some products may not be available at certain stores.
*Certain products are not subject to tax-free procedures.


Consumable Items

Confectionery, Cosmetics, Supplements, Cup noodles, Cigarettes, Beverages

Purchase conditions for tax-free
*Amount spent per store for purchases made at one store by one person in one day.
Minimum purchase amount at the store in a single day between 5,001 yen and 500,000 yen (not including tax).

Note
Items must be taken out of Japan within 30 days of purchase.
*According to Japanese law, purchases made on other days do not count towards the tax-free purchase amount.


General Items

Comics / books, Clothing, Towels / DVDs, Rain gear, Scissors, Calculators, Nail clippers


Purchase conditions for tax-free
*Amount spent per store for purchases made at one store by one person in one day.
Minimum purchase amount at the store in a single day of 10,001 yen (not including tax).

Note
Items must be taken out of Japan less than 6 months after entering the country.
*According to Japanese law, purchases made on other days do not count towards the tax-free purchase amount.

*Some campaigns will not apply when sold tax-free.

Tax-free Procedure

1. Please bring products eligible for tax exemption to the Tax-Free counter.


2. Adjustment procedures will be carried out. Please show your passport and other necessary items. Please pay the tax-exempt purchase amount in Japanese yen or with your credit card.


3. Please sign the document stating your purchase at the Tax-Free counter.


4. A Proof of Tax-free Purchase will be attached to your passport. Submit it to Customs when leaving Japan.


Notes
Tax-free consumable items are sealed in a special tax-free purchase bag. Do not open this bag until leaving the country as doing so will cause the purchased item to be subject to taxation.

Cash withdrawals can be made in Japanese yen at a Seven Bank ATM.
(Available times vary depending on the card used)

Wi-Fi
A Wi-Fi service is available for use free of charge.
*Registration are required to use some services.
*Members can use this service up to three times a day, for up to 60 minutes per session.
